Max Verstappen achieved the first pole position of his F1 career in Hungary. He made a good start and was in control for much of the race. However, Hamilton was able to keep up with Verstappen and challenged for the lead a few times. Late on in the race the Mercedes team pitted Hamilton and he rejoined the race on newer tyres but 20 seconds behind Verstappen with 20 laps to go. He broke the lap record several times as he chased Verstappen and caught him with three laps to go. By this time Verstappen's tyres were very worn and Hamilton was able to pass him easily and take the win.
