Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2023 and final results
In an utterly dominant season it was fitting that the final race ended with another easy victory for Verstappen. All credit to Verstappen and Red Bull as they've absolutely crushed the opposition this year. A Red Bull driver has won every race bar one (Sainz in Singapore) and Verstappen himself won 19 out of the 22 races and led over 1,000 laps. The other teams have been fighting for the scraps with Mercedes just pipping Ferrari to second in the constructors' championship in Abu Dhabi.
It's not been an interesting season though and, although records were broken, it's not been a good show case for the sport in many ways. You can't criticise a driver or team for doing well, the onus is on the others to catch up, but without inter or intra team competition the spectacle is diminished and no-one wants to watch a sport where the result feels pre-determined. Let's just hope the other teams can challenge Red Bull next season...
In RealityF1, the 2023 RealityF1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was won by Flash Harry. The team to have for this race was Verstappen, Ricciardo, Aston Martin and McLaren.
The 2023 RealityF1 Championship was more dramatic than the real thing with Cake and Malbotnado passing long-time leader Flying Scotsman in Las Vegas. With nothing to separate Cake and Malbotnado in team composition for the final race the title was settled by pit stop strategy with Cake correctly predicting a two stop (interestingly Cake didn't change their team or pit stop strategy all year). Congratulations to Cake you become the 23rd RealityF1 Champion! Sam Clarke was the top ranked rookie player (someone playing RealityF1 for the first time) in 53rd.
In the league competition, Sad Cheap Bankers took the top spot from Toto-Recall. This is Sad Cheap Bankers' second win in a row.
In the country league competition it was Finland who took victory from the UK. Finland continue their dominant run of not being outside of the top three since 2011.
As the season has now ended I have updated the player rankings (a leaderboard of all the players who've contested a RealityF1 season since the game started in 2001). The top ranking player is still Keith, ahead of Gary and Flying Scotsman moves up to third.
As usual, I'm keen to hear any feedback you may have on the game so I can continue to improve it so please email me your views and suggestions for the future.
The site will re-open on Monday and, although you won't be able to create a team for the new season yet, you will still be able to update your profile and account details if you wish (should you change email addresses etc).
RealityF1 will return for the 2024 season. The provisional date for the first race is the 2nd March 2024 (both Bahrain and the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix will be held on a Saturday). A month or so before the first race I'll email you to let you know that you can create your team for the coming season.
It only remains for me to thank you for playing RealityF1, I look forward to losing to you again in 2024.
