Changes to Reality F1 2022
The 2022 F1 season will begin with the Bahrain Grand Prix on the 20th March. I plan to launch the game for 2022 soon but I thought it might be helpful to outline a few changes I plan to make following some rule clarifications/changes within F1 itself.
- In F1 there has been a change to how points are awarded to races that do not reach ¾ of the race distance. There are now three different scenarios (four if you include more than ¾ distance) affecting the number of championship points awarded. In Reality F1 championship points are just one component of your overall score for a race. As a result I won't be changing the way Reality F1 awards points. For completeness, if a race is stopped before reaching ¾ race distance then RF1 points will be halved as before.
- In 2021, Sprint Qualifying sessions were treated as separate, points scoring events in Reality F1 (albeit with fewer points awarded compared to normal races). As it turned out, Sprint Qualifying was pretty dull and I don't think that treating the sessions as separate "races" in Reality F1 was interesting for players. Updating Reality F1 scores twice per weekend is also additional work for me and, since I don't think it added to the competition, I won't be treating Sprint Qualifying as separate events in 2022. In F1 itself, points will be awarded for the first eight finishers in Sprint Qualifying and I will be adding these points to the scores for the Grand Prix instead. So, for example, if your driver wins Sprint Qualifying, you will get an extra 8 points.
At this stage these are all the changes I plan to make this year but if anything changes I will post the information here and in the rules.
